What Is NeurOptimal®?

NeurOptimal® is a non-invasive neurofeedback system designed to support nervous system regulation and self-awareness. It works by giving the brain real-time information about its own activity, allowing it to make adjustments naturally—without directing or forcing change.

NeurOptimal® is often described as a brain training or nervous system optimization tool, rather than a medical or mental health treatment.

NeurOptimal Session
$50.00

A NeurOptimal® session is a non-invasive, relaxing experience designed to support nervous system awareness and self-regulation.

At the beginning of the session, small sensors are gently placed on the scalp and ears. These sensors only read brain activity; they do not send anything into the brain. Once the sensors are in place, you’ll sit comfortably while listening to music through headphones.

As your brain activity changes, the NeurOptimal® system provides brief, subtle interruptions in the music. This feedback allows your brain to notice its own patterns and make adjustments naturally, without coaching, direction, or effort on your part.

Most sessions last approximately 30–35 minutes. During the session, you do not need to focus, think in a certain way, or “do” anything specific. Many people choose to sit quietly, rest, or close their eyes.

What You May Experience

Experiences vary from person to person and from session to session. Some people report:

  • Feeling relaxed or calm

  • Feeling mentally alert or clear

  • Noticing shifts in energy or focus

  • Feeling neutral or simply rested

There is no “right” experience, and results are not predictable or guaranteed.

After the Session

Following a session, some people notice subtle changes over time, while others do not notice immediate effects. NeurOptimal® does not require processing, interpretation, or follow-up discussion as part of the session.

Important Clarifications

  • NeurOptimal® sessions are not psychotherapy or medical treatment

  • Sessions do not involve diagnosis, clinical interpretation, or treatment planning

  • NeurOptimal® is offered as a self-pay, non-clinical wellness service and is not covered by insurance, including Medicaid/OHP

  • NeurOptimal® is not a crisis service and is not appropriate for emergency mental health needs

Grant-Supported NeurOptimal® Sessions (ORPARC)

Wandering Minds Counseling & Consulting partners with Oregon Post Adoption Resource Center (ORPARC) to offer grant-funded NeurOptimal® sessions for eligible individuals and families.

Through this grant, some adoptive families, guardianship families, and eligible individuals may access NeurOptimal® sessions at no cost while grant funding remains available.

Who May Be Eligible

Grant-supported sessions may be available to:

  • Adoptive parents and families

  • Individuals or families with legal guardianship

  • Adopted individuals (youth or adults), depending on grant criteria

Eligibility is determined based on grant guidelines and availability, not clinical diagnosis.

Important Things to Know

  • Grant-funded sessions are limited and available only while funding lasts

  • Availability may change without notice once funds are exhausted

  • Participation under the grant does not require ongoing therapy services

  • NeurOptimal® remains a non-clinical, non-insurance-covered service

Because NeurOptimal® is not psychotherapy or medical treatment, use of grant funding does not replace clinical care and is not billed to insurance, including Medicaid/OHP.

How to Access Grant-Supported Sessions

If you believe you may be eligible:

  • Indicate interest when completing the referral or inquiry form, or

  • Ask about grant availability during the intake or scheduling process

I will review eligibility and current funding availability and follow up with next steps if sessions are available.

Transparency & Equity

This grant exists to reduce barriers to access for adoptive and guardianship communities. Offering services through grant funding allows support to be provided without financial burden, while maintaining ethical boundaries, informed consent, and clear expectations.
